But I think it's more likely to be something new just for XVI. It would probably be easier to use the tools they have with Unreal or Luminous than to create a modified fork of XIVs engine for an offline action game. XIV uses its own engine, derived from Crystal Tools and Luminous. This news comes from a friend of Hashimoto s, that made a post on his facebook wall. They used Unreal for Kingdom Hearts 3 and VII Remake (and presumably VII Rebirth), and Luminous for XV and Forespoken. If it is a heavily modified version of XIV's engine or a new engine I will be surprised at how much they are probably spending on that to make it work but it would also make sense to try moving toward something that would "free" them from Unreal. The technical director for the eye popping Luminous Engine has left Square Enix to pursue other goals with another company, no further details have been given aside that he has already left the company. Agnis Philosophy followed up on the aim that Square. So, if it is Unreal, it's not surprising due to how easy it would be to work with it but it would be because Square would be giving even more money to Epic. Agnis Philosophy was demonstrated at E3 2012 by Square Enix as the first tech demo of Luminous Studio. Enjoy seamless import, model reimport and compatibility or real-time rendering with the LiveSync. The idea behind Lumion is widespread compatibility to ensure that simple and fast architectural visualization is available to every architect and designer, no matter the 3D or CAD modeling software. Faced with these issues, Square Enix decided to bring in former developers from Sega to hit new engines for their products, including Luminous Studio. The reason I wouldn't say it's UE5 for sure is that I don't think the big companies want to keep paying Epic to use thr engine, Capcom is having a ton of success with RE Engine and I imagine other companies are seeing it as something that can work and make their own engine so the profit margin is bigger. Compatible with every major 3D and CAD program. And i really make a point on the 'potential' part. After thinking about it i believe that Final Fantasy XV was used has a Proof of Concept for the Luminous Engine performance and potential. I just have nothing to say it's one or the other, just that it looks similar to XIV. Final Fantasy XV was Luminous Engine 2.0 - Focused on gaming structure and game mechanics handling, AI, IK and gameplay handling implementation. Which would make sense considering its the FFXIV crew, but I can't imagine how much work they had to put into that engine to get into a shape ready for XVI, so it could be Unreal. I can only say based on looks, and how visual assets can look similar, but it looks like a heavily updated version of FFXIV's engine.
